A lot of good business plans look like envelopes or the back of envelopes. Sometimes they might be a half page of A4 on Microsoft Word. The idea that a business plan is an essential pre-requisite for any successful business to be created is a fiction invented by banks and accountants.

The real entrepreneur will have a very clear notion of what they are trying to achieve and all a business plan will ever do is flesh out the detail of that notion. The reality is that it’s the notion that is the plan, anything else is just being polite to the professional services people.
